What is CPSLE in the Southern region?

It all begins with you- the workforce who power the interactions that make a difference systemically, organisationally or voluntarily in the wellbeing of tangata whaiora in the Southern Region.

The CPSLE label comes from the title “Consumer, Peer Support and Lived Experience Workforce”. Some now refer to us as the CAPSULE workforce, while Te Pou now refer to us as Mātau ā-wheako CPSLE workers.

The Competencies give examples of the varied lived experience roles encompassed by CPSLE: Peer support workers; Consumer advocates; Consumer advisors; Consumer, peer and service user educators; Consumer, peer and service user researchers and evaluators; Consumer, peer and service user auditors; and Service user, Consumer and peer supervisors.

All these roles exist in the Southern Region

Competencies

Published in 2021 by Te Pou after a revisioning commissioned by Te Pou, the CPSLE Competencies provides an aspirational guide for those using their lived experience in the Mental Health and Addictions field. It has implications as to how we all could travel in Aotearoa.

Used for self reflection the document can keep us grounded in our roles. It can provide a focus for professional development or be a base to unpack in a team meeting. It supports a shared language despite what model of Peer we utilise.
